The public utilities department is responsible for the operation of the lime softening water treatment plant, wastewater plant with a holding pond system and all the public infrastructure dealing with the handling of water and wastewater in the city. The city also provides water to the City of Alberta. The water/wastewater supervisor is responsible for all operations and personnel. Department responsibilities include meeting all federal and state rules and regulations pertaining to water and wastewater processing and discharging. The department is funded through utility fees.
