In May of 2008, Shane will have completed his fifth year with the Morris Police Department. Shane came to us from the Pennington County Sheriff's Office. Shane has been valuable to the Morris Police Department with his language skills. Each of us has had to call on him to provide interpretive services. Shane has saved us from immeasurable legal headaches a number of times.
Shane also played an important role in the conviction Mr. Longcrow. His work on the investigation proved vital.
Shane is also acting as our narcotics officer. In 2008, Shane was charged with the task of increasing our commitment to reducing the trafficking of drugs in the community. He accepted that task with enthusiasm, even tenacity. As a result of his dedication to the long hours, endless phone calls from CIs and missed suppers, we have made great inroads into reducing the sale of illegal drugs in the city. We have seen the fruits of his labor on the front pages of the newspaper recently.
Because of this commitment, I am proud to announce that the 2008 Morris Police Officer of the Year is Officer Shane Nelson.
